Today’s outfit is so cozy! Pair a striped t-shirt with black skinny jeans, and layer on a chambray shirt and plaid infinity scarf. Accessorize with leather boots and and bag.
This article is one of a series showing the many outfit combinations I’ve designed from my 24-piece Fall/Winter Capsule wardrobe.
Here are the items from today’s outfit:
Check out these blogs that I’m linking up with! This week I’m linking up with Mel, Shaeffer and Shay for What’s up Wednesday. I already covered what I’m wearing, but here’s what else is up:
**What we’re eating this week**
We’ve been eating a lot of chicken. Period. Well, meat really, but since chicken is my favorite meat, we’ve been eating a LOT of chicken. Kevin has perfected his lemon pepper chicken wing recipe. At the suggestion of All Day I Dream About Food, he starts by coating the wings in baking power, salt and pepper. Then he bakes them for about 20 minutes, and adds whatever seasoning we are using that day. Our favorite is just butter and lemon pepper. Cook for a few more minutes, and they are ready to serve.
**What I’m reminiscing about**
Two years ago about now, we were in the process of selling our home in Illinois and looking for a new home in Kentucky. Moving has been a great blessing for our family in many ways, but there are some big downsides too. We now live about seven hours from my parents instead of less than three, and I miss seeing them as often. I also miss our house in Illinois. It was my dream house, and while I like our new house in Kentucky it just can’t compare. But “home is not a place, it is a feeling”, and my home is here with my boys.
**What I’m loving**
I love old movies, and the boys are finally to an age where they can enjoy some of my favorites. We watched “Meet Me In St. Louis” over Christmas break.
This month we watched some Alfred Hitchcock films: “North By Northwest” and “Rear Window”.
**What we’ve been up to**
We’ve had so much fun this month. We had a two group bowling outings. The boys had fun with their friends, and I enjoyed hanging out with the other parents. I even had one game with two strikes, which is pretty amazing considering how I am a terrible bowler.
Aiden had a field trip to the Evansville Museum, which included a tour of the art gallery (way more interesting for an 11 year old than you might think), and an astronomy film.
The boys had two Valentine’s parties. The first was an ice skating party.
The second party had lots of games and activities.
We went to chess club for the first time, which was a big hit.
Kevin’s birthday is in February and we celebrated with dinner out.
**What I’m dreading**
Aiden has allergy re-testing coming up. If you’ve never had allergy testing, it consists of lots of skin prick tests. The first time Aiden had these, it did not go well, and I’m really dreading going through it again. But his allergy symptoms have changed since we moved and we need to see if we can find the cause.
**What I’m working on**
I’m working SO HARD on improving my health. Not that I”m unhealthy – I have no real health issues thankfully. But I’ve never managed to lose the weight I gained during my last pregnancy, and its only been almost 9 years. I’d like to lose about 25 pounds, and I’m about half-way there since really working on it at the beginning of the year. I already feel so much better!
**What I’m excited about**
Kevin and I have been planning a short family vacation sometime in March or April. We have narrowed down our choices to a short list of options, but haven’t decided for sure. I’m excited about ALL the options though so whatever we land on is going to be so fun!
**What I’m watching/reading**
I’m still slowly making my way through The Good Wife and When Calls the Heart. After we finished Manhunt, Kevin and I have been watching Longmire on Netflix.
I’ll share more about what I’ve been reading in my monthly goals update later this week. Several of you recommended Summerland after I shared that I listened to Silver Girl on audiobook in January – great suggestion, I couldn’t put it down!
**What I’m listening to**
The boys and I have been listening to audio books on our car trips. Aiden selected a made-for-radio rendition of The Hobbit. While that is NOT my preferred story genre, the radio rendition is actually quite good.
**What I’m doing this weekend**
I’m still learning what the weather is going to be like here in Kentucky. Last year winter was so mild that Spring was a lot like early Summer. This year winter has been so much colder, and I’m really looking forward to Spring. I’ve decided that rather than try to switch to a combination Spring/Summer capsule wardrobe, I’m going to swap some pieces out of my fall/winter capsule to create a Spring capsule. Then I’ll switch to a summer capsule closer to May or early June. Here’s one item I’m planning to include in my Spring capsule – I love these mint jeans!
I hope to have my Spring Capsule ready to share by the last week of March, which means I”ll be working on it all week. Subscribe to my email list, or follow me on Facebook to get the latest news on the Spring Capsule.
**What I’m looking forward to next month**
My sister-in-law and I have a girls trip planned to Nashville in March. We went last year and had a blast together! I have a hard time getting away from the kids when I have to travel fairly often for work – just too much mom-guilt. But I know this trip will let me come home and be a better mom when I get back.
**What else is new**
I launched a new series on the blog this month that I’m so excited about! It is all about outfit ideas to inspire – some will include elements I’m considering for future capsules, and some are just fun ideas. Here’s a taste of the ideas so far:
There is a radio production of the Chronicles of Narnia that I enjoyed when I was younger.
What did the boys think of the Hitchcock movies?
They liked Rear Window pretty well. They weren’t as sure about North by Northwest – but it was the first one we saw.
