Today I’m reminded of the scene from Charlie Brown where Lucy tries to identify what is wrong with Charlie by going through a whole list of phobias. Is there a name for the fear of too much stuff? Maybe it is just a form of claustrophobia? If someone asked me about that phobia, I’d say, like Charlie Brown, “That’s It!”.
(Just to prove I don’t have Charlie’s “fear of everything”, I’ve posted today’s out fit above. I wore my converse sneakers, but we don’t wear shoes in the house so I’d already taken them off. The white jeans are really comfortable.)
Some days I look around my home and feel completely overwhelmed by the volume of things we own. Today is one of those days. Fortunately, it is Friday, and I’m off work early on Friday! So after a couple errands with my younger son, I spent about an hour cleaning out my desk drawers and the spare bedroom closet.
My desk hadn’t been cleaned out since before we moved over a year ago. And the spare bedroom closet has been a dumping ground. We had almost 30 people over for a cookout last weekend…which means lots of cleaning up…which means lots of hiding junk in the spare bedroom closet. Please tell me I’m not the only one who does that?!?
This is a big closet too, not a walk-in, but with double doors and extends to the sides beyond the doors:
And I have big desk – it is actually shared with my whole family. We have a couple shared computers there, but the drawers and cabinets all hold my stuff, mostly scrapbooking and memorabilia related.
I don’t even scrapbook anymore, so as I sit here, I’m questioning why I didn’t get rid of hardly any scrapbooking supplies. Somehow I’ve convinced myself that my boys will need them for craft projects (even though they hate craft projects). But still I’ve made progress. I’m happy with this pile of items ready for donation from today’s clean-out.
The box with the lid on top is full of clothes I’d stuck back in the spare bedroom closet in case I changed my mind about switching to a capsule wardrobe. But today I decided to get rid of them after all. Oh, and did I mention I have a sack full of trash from the decluttering session too?
